Don Giovanni in a Brooklyn loft near the Gowanus Canal, presented by a wonderful new group called LoftOpera. The cast was wonderful. Here was immersive theater of great originality, presented by talented and serious young people. I have seldom exited an opera performance feeling so happy.
—Fred Plotkin, WQXR’s Operavore
Even as much of gentrifying Brooklyn embraces its identity as an often-absurd hipster bemusement park, Loft Opera offers a paradox: an embrace of highbrow establishment pomp as retold by riders of the G train, the one subway line untouched by Manhattan. Throughout the debut performance of Don Giovanni, the performers engaged the audience. At one point, Don Giovanni serenaded a woman in the front row, leaned in over her shoulder and winked at a woman in the second row, sending giggles ricocheting throughout the small space.
—Richard Morgan, The Wall Street Journal
